EarlySpark Institute: Igniting the Next Generation of Educators
A San Mateo County Initiative
Administered by Izzi Early Education in partnership with EDvance College and Unitedly.
Growing San Mateo County’s Early Education Workforce
EarlySpark Institute is a teacher training program designed to grow a skilled, diverse early education workforce. Administered by Izzi Early Education in partnership with EDvance College and Unitedly, the program offers comprehensive training, classroom experience, and financial support as participants pursue their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and California Associate Teacher Permit.
Furthermore, students can continue working while earning their Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Studies at EDvance College—a pathway that not only deepens their expertise but also opens doors to higher-paying roles, long-term career growth, and increased impact in the lives of young children and families. Through EarlySpark Institute, students have access to tuition assistance, helping to make their educational and career goals more affordable and achievable.
Funded by San Mateo County and local Measure K fund.
Why EarlySpark Institute?
San Mateo County is facing a critical shortage of early education teachers—one that directly impacts the availability of quality care and learning environments for children ages 0–5. With too few qualified educators, families are left without the childcare support they need, and programs are unable to meet rising demand.
EarlySpark Institute is a direct response to this challenge. This initiative not only expands the pool of qualified teachers—it does so by intentionally recruiting individuals whose lived experiences reflect the diverse, vibrant communities of San Mateo County.
Over three years, Early Spark Institute will train 60+ new early educators, each prepared to make a lasting impact in classrooms across the county. This program is a powerful step toward educational equity for all children.
Program Goals
Build an early education workforce pipeline in San Mateo County.
Expand the diversity of the Early Care and Education (ECE) workforce.
Develop a skilled workforce with the experience needed to provide a high-quality education for children 0-5.
Our Partnerships
Through our partnership with EDvance College, participants have the opportunity to continue their education and pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Studies. EarlySpark Institute can help provide tuition assistance.
Through our partnership with Unitedly, we’re able to offer dedicated support for Chinese-speaking students. A bilingual facilitator from Unitedly—fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin—will provide instruction and step-by-step guidance for our Chinese-speaking students throughout the program.
